Top Ten Bar/Bat Mitzvah Photos of 2011

It’s that time again, for our annual look back at our top crop of 2011 Bar/Bat Mitzvah photos for your favorite Los Angeles based photographers, Graham & Graham.
Los Angeles Bar Mitzvah Photographer
In no particular order, we begin with Dorian, who emulated a pose first established by brother Dimitri a few years back. We tweaked the lighting and had him read from the book for not necessarily a better shot, but one we love just as much. The picture was taken by Sam Graham at Leo Baeck Temple in Los Angeles.
Marina del Rey Bat Mitzvah Party
The vivacious Chloe, confetti and a big wave during the hora–does it get any better than that? At Fantasea Yacht Club in Marina del Rey.
Temple Akiba Bat Mitzvah
Ali at Temple Akiba in Culver City, where we added just a little adjustment to the background for a little more color.
Pacific Palisades Bar Mitzvah
There are mother/son dances at Bar Mitzvah parties, and they’re usually a slow dance. Benicio and Jessica did it differently, with a rehearsed, multi-step upbeat number set to the Black-Eyed Peas at Kehillat Israel in Pacific Palisades. And we were there to document it.
Redondo Beach Bar Mitzvah
Father and son reading the torah, at Redondo Beach’s Temple Menorah. Something just says “classic” to us about this image of Max and his dad.
Pacific Palisades Bat Mitzvah
For Bar and Bat Mitzvah parties, we love to do portraiture of the child for display at the reception. For this image of the lovely Brooke, we met her at our favorite Pacific Palisades setting–the Temescal Gateway Park.

Redondo Beach Bar Mitzvah
Another classic temple portrait, taken of Elan at the Redondo Beach Jewish Community Center, which of all the South Bay temples, has the most fabulous available light. Just ask Rabbi Dovid how times we’ve mentioned it!
Manhattan Beach Bar Mitzvah Photographer
Here’s David during the Havdalah portion of his Manhattan Beach Bar Mitzvah. A great moment, but consider where we shot this–in a ballroom at the Manhattan Beach Country Club, home to many a real estate seminar!
Manhattan Beach Bat Mitzvah | Ayers Hotel
Finally, here’s Sammy at her purple themed bash at the Ayers Hotel, near Manhattan Beach. We’ve seen a lot of pink and blue at these parties, but never so much purple. All that was missing was Prince!
Thanks again to Los Angeles area Bar/Bat Mitzvah moms and dads for hiring us (again) in 2011, and we look forward to seeing you in the sanctuary and on the dance floor(s) in 2012!

Five Star Review for Alexis & Phil’s Redondo Beach Wedding

More raves from brides!
From Alexis, on Citysearch:
“Jeff and his team are amazing. You totally get your moneys worth and more with Graham & Graham Photography. They were on time, and responsive to all of my questions. I am super busy with work and Jeff returned every email promptly. I never had to worry about a thing as long as Jeff was around! The only problem I’m having is decided which pictures I like best! They are all so good quality and creative! My wedding was a dream come true, and every moment was captured perfectly!”

Five Star Review for Susie & Kev’s Manhattan Beach Engagement Portraits!

We love happy clients!
Manhattan Beach Engagement Session
Here’s what Susie had to say about her experience with us on Citysearch.
“We had such a fantastic experience with Jeff at Graham and Graham Photography. We are from the UK and had always wanted pictures taken on the beach in Manhattan as an engagement photo shoot. We missed that but did manage to have them done following our wedding while we were on our honeymoon. Jeff exceeded all of our expectations. Not only did he respond to our inquiry immediately offering a package perfectly suited to us, but he stayed in touch up until the day of the shoot and was there at the beach waiting for us, camera in hand. We spent the hour in various positions and locations and Jeff made sure he got a variety of shots with a range of different lighting. He then endeavoured to have our photos presented in a lovely box ready at our hotel by the time we checked out for our flight the next day. What service! And the photos were absolutely beautiful, particularly some of the wonderful sunset shots. We will treasure them forever and are struggling to choose which ones to frame! I only wish Jeff had photographed our wedding too.”

Manhattan Beach Bat Mitzvah | Ayers Hotel Party

Sammy took center stage at Manhattan Beach’s Congregation Tikvat Jacob recently, and we were there for her Bat Mitzvah portraits. We lit them with our Lowell-Pro video lights, which adds this nice, warm glow without putting a light glare on the back wall. We love those Lowell’s!
Then we met up again, at the purple themed Bat Mitzvah bash at the Ayers Hotel on Rosecrans, off the 405. Technically, it’s in Hawthorne, but since it’s so close to home, we always feel like we’re in Manhattan Beach.
