It’s that time again, for our annual look back at our top crop of 2011 Bar/Bat Mitzvah photos for your favorite Los Angeles based photographers, Graham & Graham.
In no particular order, we begin with Dorian, who emulated a pose first established by brother Dimitri a few years back. We tweaked the lighting and had him read from the book for not necessarily a better shot, but one we love just as much. The picture was taken by Sam Graham at Leo Baeck Temple in Los Angeles.
The vivacious Chloe, confetti and a big wave during the hora–does it get any better than that? At Fantasea Yacht Club in Marina del Rey.
Ali at Temple Akiba in Culver City, where we added just a little adjustment to the background for a little more color.
There are mother/son dances at Bar Mitzvah parties, and they’re usually a slow dance. Benicio and Jessica did it differently, with a rehearsed, multi-step upbeat number set to the Black-Eyed Peas at Kehillat Israel in Pacific Palisades. And we were there to document it.
Father and son reading the torah, at Redondo Beach’s Temple Menorah. Something just says “classic” to us about this image of Max and his dad.
For Bar and Bat Mitzvah parties, we love to do portraiture of the child for display at the reception. For this image of the lovely Brooke, we met her at our favorite Pacific Palisades setting–the Temescal Gateway Park.
Maddie’s ultra-theatrical grand entrance at her Mark for Events party in Los Angeles.
Another classic temple portrait, taken of Elan at the Redondo Beach Jewish Community Center, which of all the South Bay temples, has the most fabulous available light. Just ask Rabbi Dovid how times we’ve mentioned it!
Here’s David during the Havdalah portion of his Manhattan Beach Bar Mitzvah. A great moment, but consider where we shot this–in a ballroom at the Manhattan Beach Country Club, home to many a real estate seminar!
Finally, here’s Sammy at her purple themed bash at the Ayers Hotel, near Manhattan Beach. We’ve seen a lot of pink and blue at these parties, but never so much purple. All that was missing was Prince!
Thanks again to Los Angeles area Bar/Bat Mitzvah moms and dads for hiring us (again) in 2011, and we look forward to seeing you in the sanctuary and on the dance floor(s) in 2012!
