Weddings by the sea in beautiful Southern California.
Sounds like a TV fantasy, doesn't it? Yet joining hands in front of crashing waves, on the sands of Manhattan Beach can become your reality, with just a little planning and some elbow grease. While hefty fees have to be paid to the county, it's still a fraction of what a hotel would charge.
And how about those killer views?

The Los Angeles County Dept. of Beaches and Harbors requires $150 permits to hold a wedding near a lifeguard station. An additional 15% of vendors fees (what you pay florists, chair rental companies and photographers such as ourselves) goes to the county as well.
You also need to arrange for a $1 million liability insurance policy (around $100), and if you have music coming through speakers, or being performed live, you need to contact the Manhattan Beach police department for a sound permit. Permits for beach weddings are generally arranged by asking to be positioned near a specific lifeguard tower. For more info, go to the county website, http://labeaches.info and click the permit form. The phone contact is Pamela Miller, at 310-574-6756.
If not the beach, how about an engagement session by the sea, and reception at one of our fine local hotels?
- The Manhattan Beach Marriott doesn't have an ocean view, but it's ambience is laid-back and beach casual. It's the only hotel in the beach cities set on a golf course, which makes for a wonderful backdrop at weddings or bar/bat mitzvah receptions. Great swimming pool, terrific food, lots of available parking, spacious rooms. And it's only a mile from the beach, a short walk in the greatest beach town in California. Ask for our good friend Vicky Davis, the catering manager, and tell her Graham & Graham sent you. Manhattan Beach Marriott. 1400 Parkview Avenue, 310-546-7511
- The Belamar. Just off busy Sepulveda Blvd., and across from the bustling Manhattan Beach Village shopping center lies this little country oasis, with modern architecture and a lovely garden setting. Weddings take place in the 2,600 square foot courtyard, amidst "whimsical topiaries, fragrant floral vines and gently falling water." The Belamar. 3501 Sepulveda. 310-750-8300.
- The Shade Hotel: Weddings are staged in the courtyard of Manhattan Beach's newest luxury hotel. The anchor of the mall for what was once the Metlox pottery plant, the Shade is operated by the folks behind the insanely popular Rock'N'Fish eaterie on Manhattan Beach Blvd. The Shade Hotel. 1221 N Valley Drive. 310.546.4995.
- Verandas: The banquet room with the garden setting and ocean view is only open for parties. It sits just up from Highland, across from Baja Sharkeez and three blocks from the Pacific Ocean and the Strand. Verandas has a killer ocean view from the banquet room, and a big, wide open garden for weddings and events. Verandas is owned by New York Food Company, which also operates the landmark La Venta Inn in Palos Verdes. Verandas: 401 Rosecrans Blvd., 310-546-7801.

"The photos are terrific! Everyone who sees them keeps complimenting me on how beautiful the pictures look. Besides the photos, I was also impressed with the amount of time you spent with me to make sure I was happy. I really appreciate the time you spent uploading the pictures to the site I wanted. You didn't have to do that, and that is what makes your service better than the rest."--Wendy & Dimitry, Manhattan Beach
